We are delighted to announce that Season Design Technology (SDT) a leading specialist embedded computer solutions provider marks its 30th anniversary of incorporation this month.
Since its founding in 1984, and incorporation in 1987, Season Design Technology has been providing bespoke embedded systems and product design services to customers worldwide.
Over the last 30 years, SDT has made considerable changes in its operations to build upon the strengths of its existing assets and ensure its ongoing growth. In 2012 SDT became part of Season Group, the global, vertically integrated EMS company. This synergistic acquisition allowed SDT to strengthen their market position and play a pivotal role in Season Group’s global design offering.
Through Season Group's global reach, the demand for SDT’s unique design services has rapidly increased, allowing SDT to move to brand new offices in Sheffield, expand their team and increase the design services they offer to include custom design.

Highly skilled jobs are to be created in Sheffield through an investment from Season Group, a global, vertically integrated EMS company.
Season Group has chosen Sheffield over other UK cities as the prime location in which to open its global design hub. Back in 2011 Season Group recognised an emerging need from its European customers for enhanced design support, which was the driving force behind acquiring Season Design Technology (SDT), formally known as DSP Design, specialists in Embedded Computing products and custom electronic design.
Since the acquisition the need from Season Group customers for SDT’s design services has grown significantly, which has considerably increased the scope of the work that the team now undertakes.
The move to the new office in Sheffield will allow SDT to provide Embedded products and design solutions on a global scale and provide the SDT team with the opportunity to triple its workforce over the next few years.
Councillor Talib Hussain, current Lord Mayor of Sheffield, cut the ribbon at the official opening, which was also attended by Carl Hung, President & CEO of Season Group.
Councillor Talib said, “I am delighted to open SDT’s new office. Sheffield is at the heart of UK manufacturing industry and is known for its strengths in the manufacturing, engineering and technology sectors. It’s great to have a global company recognise this and commit to a long term investment that will help our local economy and which will create highly skilled jobs”
Speaking at the event, Carl said “The opening of the new office plays an integral part in the Group’s plans to expand its operations in the UK. We saw Sheffield as a prime location in which to invest. With the abundance of universities and technology companies nearby, there is a great pool of talent in Sheffield for us to choose from. This relocation will allow us to aggressively expand our design team in the UK and provide better service to our customers in Europe and North America.”

As of today, we are delighted to announce that we have changed our business name from DSP Design to Season Design Technology and have moved to new premises in Sheffield.
The move plays an integral part in our future growth and expansion plans and does not in any way change the nature of our business.
DSP Design was acquired by Season Group in the autumn of 2012. The decision to change our name forms part of the Group’s strategy to unify its business offerings.
All of our business operations have now been transferred from our old facility at Tapton Park, Chesterfield to our new offices located in Sheffield.

Season Group, the global, vertically integrated EMS company, has announced that following a 3-year transition period, Carl Hung has formally taken over the role of CEO of Season Group from his father Patrick. This transition was marked during the company’s recent 40th Anniversary celebrations.
Speaking at the event, Patrick said “Carl embodies the Season mindset and philosophy. He has been working and developing within the business for the past 10 years. Whilst I am proud of all that I have achieved with my colleagues over the past 40 years, the time is now right for Carl to take over responsibility for the running of the company. I know that he is determined to take Season Group to a whole new level of success. And as I step down from the day-to-day operations, I would like to thank all of our customers, suppliers and employees for their support over many years.”
Carl responded by saying “I am humbled by the achievement of my father in building a company that now operates in China, USA, UK, Hong Kong, Canada, Malaysia and Mexico. We started with Cable Assembly and Plastics and have grown to become a key EMS partner for our customers – many of who now entrust us with full electromechanical assembly of their products”.
The Anniversary event also saw the opening of a new on-site crèche for employees’ children at the Dongguan facility, as well as a senior citizens centre for past employees and parents of current employees.
To demonstrate the way in which relationships grow, mature and bear fruit for companies that work together, Season has a tradition of planting a tree with each of its long-term, major customers. Speaking at one of these planting ceremonies at the Anniversary event, Carl added “We are very fortunate to have a set of customers that value the benefits of long-term relationships with their EMS suppliers. This has given us the incentive to make key strategic investments to support them and bring them a ever-wider range of benefits”
Outsource Electronics Limited, a member of the Season Group, has obtained AS9100 certification for its facility in Havant, UK. This is the culmination of a series of major investments in the site over the past two years.
Chris Coldbreath, Director of Operations - UK, stated "I am delighted that we have achieved AS9100 approval on our first attempt. It is testament to the hard work and quality-focus of the entire team in Havant. And this is the latest, although perhaps most important, of a number of developments at the site. I am certain that any customer that has not visited us since early 2013 will be hugely impressed with the changes that we have made. The shop floor has undergone a total re-fit and we have installed a new SMT line. We are also in the process of implementing a new MES system (Aegis FactoryLogix) which will enhance our QMS even further."
The investments have not only been in software and equipment. Since the upgrades began, Outsource Electronics Limited (OEL) has brought in experienced individuals to significantly strengthen its capabilities in Engineering, Quality and Sales.
Chris added "We are already seeing significant growth as a result of these investments and we anticipate that this growth path will continue as the message gets out regarding the changes that we have made. And to ensure that our potential Aerospace and Defence customers are aware of these positive developments, we will be exhibiting at DSEI in September."
